My name is Dahlia Rose, though in the beginning, I was called Sweetie which was a fitting name for a tiny dog with a big tongue and an even bigger heart. My journey to Wisconsin wasn’t simple. It wasn’t easy. It was filled with people who cared enough to keep me moving forward until I finally found the place I belonged. This is my story.

My life began with an elderly lady who adored me. She gave me warmth, affection, and the kind of gentle companionship only seniors seem to understand. As her circumstances changed, she could no longer care for me. Thankfully she knew that love sometimes means letting go.

I was taken in by another family who wanted to help me. They gave me safety and kindness, but tragedy struck their home, and suddenly they couldn’t keep me either. They didn’t abandon me – they reached out for help, hoping someone could give me the stability they no longer could. That’s when Jo W. stepped in. She already had dogs of her own and fostered other pups who depended on her.  She didn’t hesitate to help me. She noticed my tiny tongue right away and said I was “just a happy little dog.” She could not adopt me herself, but she refused to let me fall through the cracks. She contacted someone she trusted completely: The Atchafalaya River Rescue and one of its founders – Bridget.

Bridget welcomed me into the care of Atchafalaya River Rescue – the backbone of rescue work in Avoyelles Parish. They fight an uphill battle every day – saving discarded animals, treating medical needs, and giving dogs like me a chance at life. With Bridget’s help, I received the medical clearance I needed to travel north. I didn’t know it then, but this was the turning point. This was the moment my future truly began.

When I was ready to make the long trip to Wisconsin, Jill from The Hope Highway Dog Rescue stepped in. She put out an urgent call to all the volunteers who work with her rescue, asking for a foster willing to take in “Sweetie.” She didn’t know that someone would see that post within minutes – someone who would change my life forever – my hu-mom.

My hu-mom called Jill right away and told her to take the post down. She wasn’t just willing to foster me; she intended to adopt me. As our bond deepened, I became a certified service dog. My job is private, but my purpose is clear: I help my hu-mom navigate the world, and she helps me shine in it.

When I arrived in Wisconsin, everything changed. I became Dahlia Rose, a name that suits the softness of my spirit and the strength of my journey. I became the tiny assistant for the family business, Creatures Covers LLC; as well as part of a family, and part of a mission that is so much bigger than myself. After settling into my new life in Wisconsin, something became clear almost immediately. I am not just a sweet little rescue dog – I am charming and am privileged enough to draw attention everywhere I go. People stop to greet me all the time, and they ask about my story. Most importantly, they notice my tiny tongue hanging out of my mouth and they all love my gentle confidence. That’s when I realized I could be so much more than a beloved companion and service dog for my hu-mom: I could be a voice! I may be small, but I carry a message that is so much bigger than myself!

Today, I’m a brand ambassador for Creatures Covers, LLC, which is a business that supports rescues and animal welfare organizations. I greet people at events, help raise awareness, and stand beside my best furry friend Roxz and her organization that works tirelessly to keep pets and families together. I am living proof that rescue matters; proof that second chances save lives. I cannot wait to share Roxz’s story and that of her non-profit, Roxz’s Resources & Awareness Inc. with you all. I’m sure you’ll love her as much as I do!

I’m here because so many hands lifted me up. I’m here because rescue networks never stopped fighting. I’m here because I have a hu-mom that opened her home and her heart. This blog is where I’ll share my journey, highlight the rescues who saved me, and shine a light on the rescues working to save so many animals in need, and on some of the dogs still waiting for their chance. I’ll tell stories of hope, resilience, and the people who refuse to give up on animals like me. Now, I’m here to help others find their way home too.

With love, Dahlia Rose
